FADEAWAY MAGAZINE - GO COP IT!!!
05/28/2009
When I first got into ball, back in the mid-nineties, there were a few British basketball magazines out there - such as "XXXL" and the newspaper-like "Slam Dunk".
Those died a death a long time ago...and, to my knowledge at least, there hasn't been a dedicated basketball magazine produced on these shores for years.
Well, all that will change next week as the first edition of Fadeaway is released....with yours truly as editor.
We're going to be covering all aspects of the global game, but with a British twist.
In issue one we...
Speak to Pops Mensah-Bonsu about his NBA breakout season
Interview Kolten Lee - the man behind "Freestyle", Britain's first ever basketball film (coming in October)
Look ahead to how Team GB might fare in September's Eurobasket competition
Look back on LeBron's MVP season
Find out how an eye condition forced former England junior and NCAA baller Charlotte Baldrey-Chourio off the court, and into the courtroom
Plus a whole lot more.

I've gotta give a shout out to Jake Green from Response Photographic and Mike Baptiste for basically setting the whole thing up. And to Harry Adams from Big Smoke for the design work which has made it look dope.
You'll be able to cop it at the following Borders stores:

Neil - it'll be available in our online store soon by the weekend.
We're also working on getting it into more stores (such as WHSmith).
This was just issue one - so I'm pleased with what we've achieved...and I think once stores, advertisers etc see the quality, we'll be able to do a lot more with issue 2.

Looks good...Hope it is more FIBA basketball monthly than Slam Dunk from back in the day and has equal coverage of Europe, the UK scene and nba rather than 60-90% of the mag being for the NBA.
I am a bit disappointed by your distribution though....Went to the Borders @ Gateshead at the weekend and couldn't see it on the shelve. When I asked at the counter they couldn;t find it on the magazine listings. Is there no plans to subscribe and even buy it direct from your web-site????

NOthing but props gop out to you Greg. I was working on the same idea as you. Even whiilst working on it, wondered why you hadn't done anything like this already. Even toyed with the same name as the one you have. Tentatively called mine ballers, but was always looking and thinking of something with more impact and in keeping with other magazines, i knew it would need to be named after a skill i.e SLAM, DIME or REVERSE. So yea i know its goin to be big, its what this country needed. I dont know you, seen you around obviously and you got all the connects to make it work. Just what this country needed, give our players the ink they deserve
